GvpD1 is coded by a gene on plasmids pNRC100 and pNRC200 in Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 which plays an unknown function in the formation of gas vesicle nanoparticles (GVNPs). Primer extension analysis showed that the gvpA-gvpD intergenic region contains divergent promoters. See Jones et al.
