VNG1464
Gene VNG1464 in replicon chromosome
The bat (vng1464) gene codes for the bacterio-opsin sensor-activator, a multi-domain protein with a putative redox-sensing PAS-PAC or LOV (COG2202) domain, a light-sensing GAF domain (COG2203), as well as a C-terminal helix-turn-helix (HTH) DNA binding domain (COG3413). It is not essential for the organism’s survival under optimal conditions, however, if the gene is deleted, the cultures appear phenotypically more pink than purple-tinged in color. See DasSarma et al. J Bacteriol. 2012 Oct;194(20):5530-7.
