The Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 Genome

ISH1, 1,118 bp long, was discovered when it inserted into the bop gene in bacteriorhodopsin deficient mutants of Halobacterium sp. S9. It integrated in both orientations into the N-terminal coding region of BR duplicating an 8 bp sequence which is flanked by short (9/10 bp) inverted repeats, which forms a stem-loop at the 5'-end of the bop mRNA.
