VNG2136
Gene VNG2136 in replicon chromosome
blh is a brp-like homolog (brp is vng1465), which has been implicated in retinal biosynthesis. Deletion of the blh gene resulted in lower production of retinal, consistent with its function as a β-carotene 15,15'-dioxygenase, for conversion of β-carotene to retinal. See Peck et al. J Biol Chem. 2001 Feb 23;276(8):5739-44.
