VNG1465
Gene VNG1465 in replicon chromosome
The bacteriorhodopsin related protein (Brp) was implicated in bacteriorhodopsin biosynthesis in early work. Deletion of the brp gene (vng1465) resulted in lower production of retinal, consistent with its function as a β-carotene 15,15'-dioxygenase, for conversion of β-carotene to retinal. See Peck et al. J Biol Chem. 2001 Feb 23;276(8):5739-44.
